Real-world research project of biological graft in laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair officially launched

October 15-16, 2021, hosted by the Beijing Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and Beijing Medical Association, co-organized by the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, Beijing Municipal Science&Technology Commission, Peking University Health Science Center, Capital Medical University, and Beijing Association for Science and Technology, " the Second Surgery Branch of Beijing Medical Innovation and Translation Conference in 2021" was held in the China Hall of Science and Technology.

With the theme of "Innovation, Transformation, Integration and Development", this conference focused on the field of hernia and abdominal wall surgery, in order to promoting the transformation of medical technology achievements in the field of hernia and abdominal surgery through various forms such as surgical demonstrations and lecture sharing, and building a bridge of medicine, equipment, research, and learning.

At this conference, the "Real World Research Project of Biological Graft in Laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia Repair" initiated by the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation- Biosis Healing Excellence Surgery Special Fund, nearly a hundred clinical surgical experts, and witnessed by thousands of medical colleagues online, a grand launching ceremony was held, officially announcing the start of the "Real-World Research Project of Biological Graft in Laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia Repair".

Ms. Hu Yue, representative of the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, explained the original intention of the project: in order to establish a bridge of collaboration between industry, university, research and medical institution, promote the clinical application of China's independent intellectual property products, break the monopoly of foreign technology, and realize import substitution. To provide patients with high-quality and low-cost tissue repair products, the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation and Beijing Biosis Healing Biological Technology Co., Ltd. jointly established the "Wu Jieping Medical Foundation- Biosis Healing Excellence Surgery Special Fund". The fund is China's first special fund project in the field of surgery. It was officially launched in 2019. It has donated nearly 10 million yuan so far. The organization specifically supports clinical scientific research surgeons to engage in academic exchanges, education and training, clinical scientific research and other activities, with a focus on supporting the clinical application research of biodegradable bio-material in the field of surgical repair.

The research direction of the application of this fund covers multiple surgical fields such as "hernia and abdominal wall surgery, anorectal surgery, neurosurgery, pelvic floor surgery", and a single-center project is funded by RMB 50,000 for scientific research. Multi-center projects is funded by RMB 100,000 to 500,000 for scientific research based on the amount of participating centers.

Subsequently, Yang Huiqi, Chief Physician of Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University, gave a key introduction to the "Prospective, multi-center cohort study of different hernia graft for laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair" in Chao-Yang Hospital. Yang Huiqi said: "The background of the establishment of this project is that the application of non-degradable synthetic patch in the repair of esophageal hiatal hernia can cause complications such as esophageal erosion and perforation. Therefore, it is necessary to find and use a more ideal repair material. Reduce hernia recurrence rate while reducing postoperative complications. This project can evaluate the safety and effectiveness of real-world biological hernia graft in laparoscopic esophageal hiatal hernia repair."

Zhao Bo, Chairman of Biosis Healing gave a brief introduction to the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation- Biosis Healing Excellence Surgery Special Fund. Finally, Professor Chen Jie from Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital, Capital Medical University, introduced the development status of real-world research in the international medical field, and emphasized the importance and urgency of conducting real-world research in China. Professor Chen Jie called on all doctors in the field of hernia and abdominal wall surgery across the country to actively participate in real-world research projects. He hoped that all clinical surgeons will actively apply for the project, and thank Biosis Healing for their support and help in the field of hernia and abdominal wall surgery. The study, research and medical work together to jointly promote the development of the field of hernia and abdominal wall surgery in China, with a view to benefiting more patients.
